Today, I’ll share how J. Crew collects emails with a simple (but powerful) popup on its product pages.

Today, I’ll share how J. Crew collects emails with a simple (but powerful) popup on its product pages.
The Brand: J. Crew
J.Crew is an American multi-brand, multi-channel, specialty retailer known for its assortment of women's, men's, and children's apparel.
A while back, I browsed one of its product pages when I saw a shirt I liked.
When I chose my size, however, I noticed the color I wanted wasn’t available, as seen in the dropdown below:
Next to each unavailable size was a hyperlinked CTA that said, “Out of Stock In This Color - Notify Me”:
Moreover, J. Crew included a pre-checked consent checkbox so it could email me marketing emails in the future.
Not bad for a simple popup.
How to Use It
Most brands use popups to collect email.
That’s not new.
But few use them to collect emails when the user’s buyer intent is high. (Such as on product pages.)
With that in mind, ask for an email when users express interest in certain products in certain sizes.
Lastly, remember to include a pre-checked consent box, as J. Crew does, so that you can send follow-up marketing emails.
You won’t see a massive uptake in email subscribers, but you will collect higher-quality leads with buyer intent.
That’s it.
Until next week,
Best Regards,
