Welcome to another edition of OnSite Made Simple.

Today, I’ll share how to collect more email addresses and phone numbers without losing conversions.

Plus, a special announcement (discussed at the end).

The Brand: Eyebuydirect

Eyebuydirect is an online retailer of prescription glasses based in Austin, Texas.

If you visit its website and try to leave one of its product pages, you see an exit-intent popup offering 40% off plus free shipping if you enter your email.

After entering your email, you see a second step asking for your telephone number:

If you skip this step, Eyebuydirect asks you to check your inbox to get the code.

What’s interesting is that if you return to its site as a subscriber, you now see a teaser reminding you to check your inbox.

Here’s the teaser:

And here’s the popup:

Let’s talk about why this campaign works and how you can set up something similar.

Why It Works

stroke 03

1. Uses a Multistep Popup

We found from our analysis of 1B+ popup sessions that popups that have a second step see 76 percent of its subscribers input more details.

Most brands ask for an email and a phone number in the first step. But it’s better to break it out into two steps.

2. Distinguishes Between New and Returning Visitors

One of the most common popup mistakes marketers make is showing one popup to everyone on their site.

Eyebuydirect invites new visitors to enter their email and returning subscribers to use their code, which is an effective way of turning new subscribers into new customers.

3. Uses Risk-Reversals

Eyebuydirect knows a new visitor might be skeptical about entering their email and phone number.

So, throughout the steps, the brand repeats two risk-reversals to put nervous visitors at ease: 14-day free returns and 24/7 customer service.

And that’s it!

Well, almost…

If you want to learn how to grow your list in 2024 and stay compliant with the many recent changes in the EU, then you’re in luck.

On Thursday, February 29th at 11:00 AM (CET), our Head of Partners, Sofie Mølgaard, will teach a live masterclass called “How to Grow Your List in 2024.”

In it, she’ll share:

  • How you can make more out of your website traffic (and marketing budget)
  • New popup statistics from 2024 (we haven’t shared anywhere else)
  • Examples of high-converting popups from top brands

And much, much more.

Register for the event for free.

Until next week.
