Welcome to another edition of OnSite Made Simple.
Today I’ll share how to drive more sales on Valentine’s Day (even if you’re in a “boring” industry).
Let’s dive in.
The Tactic: Address the Elephant In the Room
Launched in 2017, Bite is a toothpaste brand that went viral in 2018 for its unique way of avoiding excess packaging and still getting teeth squeaky clean.
A while back, I visited Bite's website and saw a popup asking for my email in return for a 10% discount (on top of the 10% discount I still hadn’t used when I subscribed).
I subscribed, and a few weeks later, I got an email titled, “Non-toxic, unlike your ex.”
Here’s an excerpt:
Rather than awkwardly suggest its products as Valentine’s Day gifts, Bite addressed the elephant in the room and, instead, made the email about the reader.
Moreover, Bite incentivized me to make a purchase by offering a generous 20 percent discount code.
Interestingly, the discount was still valid after Valentine’s Day (although it might have driven more orders had Bite added an end-of-day deadline.)
How to Use This Tactic
Avoid forgoing holiday promotions if you feel like your products aren’t gift-friendly due to being in a “boring” niche.
Instead, meet the reader where they are and reframe the holiday as a chance for the reader to treat themselves instead.
Offer a discount to nudge potential buyers, and if you want to go a step further, add a deadline to drive urgency before the holiday ends.
That’s it!
Let me know what you thought of today’s email.
