AN EVENING WITH |
Neil Raitt |
We welcomed Neil Raitt into our founder’s home for an intimate dinner and conversation with the artist. To celebrate the occasion, we are releasing several new painting and charcoal works by Raitt. |
From tangerine sunsets to crinkle cut mountains, each piece features scroll-like repetitions of patterned palm trees, waterfalls and alpine peaks, depicting what the artist calls "impossible horizons" that forgo any relationship to a real or even specific place. Terrains, climates, and disparate geographies are mixed together in a vibrant parody of traditional sea and landscape art. |

IMPOSSIBLE HORIZONS |
The impossibleness of these scenes argues for the possibility of fresh perspectives. Free from nostalgia or romanticism, Raitt’s landscapes have a mythological quality conveyed both through the saturated intensity of his colours, built up through tight, deliberate brushwork, and the particularity of his hypnotic pattern play. |
