CURATOR’S PICKS |
|
|
Although subjective by nature, our curators agree a statement piece must spark curiosity, not be shy in material or concept, and linger in the mind long after viewing. From paintings that command the gaze to sculptures whose scale and texture unsettle expectations, this month’s Curator’s Picks showcases artworks that demand attention. |

UP IN THE AIR WITH

We are delighted to release a new series of prints from award-winning photographer Tommy Clarke. Clarke is known for his thrilling aerial photography – landscapes shot from hundreds of feet in the air. His speciality is photographing a bird’s-eye view of coastlines that look almost like abstract expressionist paintings. |

Forget drones. Clarke straps in and hangs out of helicopters and planes to get the perfect shot – high enough to show the sheer scale of nature and low enough to capture fine details and figures. Shooting vertically downwards, he flattens the terrain into fields of colour and texture, producing images that often recall Rothko in their abstraction. |

Aside from his sky-falling, adrenaline-junkie methods, the intention behind the work is more grounded. Drawn to the raw power and ever-changing palette of the sea and coast, Clarke’s work examines the human relationship between water and land. |
