Björn Heyn |
|
|
Using golf clubs as paintbrush extenders, golf balls to propel pigment onto canvas, swinging while painting (literally), and painting with his mouth, Björn Heyn's practice occupies a productive space between control and abandon. His Berlin studio functions as a playground, where experimentation takes precedence over convention and the unexpected is welcomed as an essential part of the process. |

creating out of bounds
Heyn builds his compositions through layers of painting, drawing and collage, allowing spontaneous gestures to accumulate before interrupting them with geometric forms. Beneath the apparent ease of his bright, graphic compositions lies a considered engagement with material, surface and the possibilities of abstraction. |

PLAY IS A SERIOUS BUSINESS
For Heyn, play is less an escape from rigour than a means of arriving at it. His work invites us to reconsider the role of chance in artistic production, finding in experimentation a freedom that is as deliberate as it is instinctive. |
