Hey there,
A bit ago, a creator booked a coaching call with me because a brand said it had $5K left in its quarterly budget and wanted to collaborate.
The problem? The creator usually charged $10K for the requested scope of work.
At this juncture, creators typically do one of 3 things:
- Accept the $5K for the full SOW/terms (conceding nothing)
- Say no (politely)
- Say no (rudely, publicly dragging the brand for lowballing them lol)
This creator was leaning toward option 2.
Instead, I proposed a simple solution:
“Since the brand seems to have budget constraints, why not allow them to pay $5K now and the remaining $5K next quarter?”
The creator was skeptical that having flexible payment terms would make any difference.
Wanna know what the brand said?
“You would do that for us?! We didn’t even know installments were an option!
In that case, can we do a 12-month deal @ $5k a month?”
As a creator, if you can have empathy for brands and help them creatively navigate internal red tape, you’ll be shocked at how quickly everyone’s priorities will align.
Not to mention how quickly your sponsorship deal flow will accelerate. 😉
What are some creative ways that you’ve gotten a deal across the finish line when negotiating with a brand?
Any deals you lost at the last minute? What happened?
Hit reply and LMK!
