Hi there -

When my wife and I started Content Marketing Institute, I wrote down the goal of selling the business by 2015 for at least $15 million dollars. We sold in 2016 and I stayed on until the end of 2017.

What’s interesting, and what I think about often, is how close we were to success and almost gave up. In September of 2009, two years after starting the business, I thought the world was ending. I believed I made a poor decision to leave an executive job to start a business. Less than nine months later, once we made a business pivot (the Content Inc. model), we could see the light at the end of the tunnel.

That’s why I tell content entrepreneurs that their most important trait is patience. The simple truth is that most entrepreneurs give up. The ones that hang around long enough generally see some success.

Okay…back to selling CMI.

When we sold, I didn’t have a clue about where to put the money. I was scared I would screw the whole thing up after we worked so hard to secure a sale.

Well, we did a ton of research, and came up with what I believe is a pretty good investment strategy. Perhaps you could use one for your finances?

While I have to say that this is not investment advice, maybe this quick guide will help: A Perfect Investment Strategy
