Hey there,

I'm building something new.

For a long time, I've basically had three products:

  1. The Lab (our membership community)
  2. CreatorHQ (the Notion operating system we use)
  3. Courses (which are path-specific, e.g. our Newsletter Masterclass)

Sometimes, I run those courses live!

But these offers have a big problem: Most of my readers aren't eligible for (or interested in) the products I currently sell. 😅

The Lab is for creators earning $100K+ per year. If you're unwilling to learn Notion, CreatorHQ won't work for you. And the courses are useful if you care about that thing (and two of my courses are about podcasting)!

I haven't had a useful, accessible product that can help readers like YOU go from 0 to 1. And, overwhelmingly, that's what I hear people asking for.

Well, I'm building it. It's called Traction Plan, and it's designed to give you a personalized plan to find traction with your content.

It's not a course (though it'll be educational). It's a guided, responsive experience that takes your inputs and workshops language and strategy in real time so that you come out on the other side with a personalized plan that fits YOUR business, YOUR goals, and YOUR schedule.

It's completely custom. I'm not using a third-party tool; I'm building it from the ground up, and it'll be available in early November.

Want to be kept in the loop and see some previews?

On to this week's newsletter...

Inside this edition:

  • Free Workshop: See the data hiding in your list
  • New Essay: Proof of Effort
  • Free Virtual Event: The Connection Conference (Oct. 19-23)
  • New Video: How George Blackman uses AI in scriptwriting

FREE WORKSHOP
Understand WHO is reading your emails

As tempting as it is to judge the value of your email list by the NUMBER of subscribers you have, WHO is on your list matters so much more.

And now, for Kit users, it's easier than ever to identify and segment the most engaged, best-fit subscribers with their new Subscriber Signals feature.

In this live session, Shiv Chibber from Kit and I will show you:

  • How to see who’s actually on your list, beyond an email address
  • How to spot the subscribers who fit your highest-value offers
  • How to find potential sponsors and collaborators already reading your emails
  • How other creators have used these insights to generate revenue and build relationships

By the end, you’ll have a new way to look at the audience you’ve already built.

Reserve your free seat for October 19th at 1:30pm Eastern (It will be recorded, but live attendees get exclusive bonuses).

This is my last live workshop before paternity leave! I'd love to see you.

I am a customer, investor, and affiliate for Kit. That means if you click my affiliate link and go on to subscribe to a paid Kit account, I may receive a commission.

Jay Clouse

I saw a depressing prediction from Dan Shipper (CEO of Every) on X this week.

Here's the paraphrased version:

the newsletter is dead
Every's core business is a newsletter with 120k+ subscribers so I don't say this lightly.

persistent agents mean i dont look at my inbox
with dots (GrokBots, Muse, etc) I almost never look at my inbox. if I do it's for a specific thing I need to reply to.i think in a year I'll be doing all of my email this way - fully filtered by my dot / something like it.

what it means
It doesn’t mean people won't read newsletters, but it does mean that getting a person’s email is no longer the guarantee that you have a relationship with them that it used to.

For years now, people have "joked" that the future of work looks like 1) people using AI to create things and then 2) people using AI to summarize and consume those things—i.e., humans are no longer truly creating or consuming what was created. Bots talk to bots, dead internet theory, blah blah blah.

It's a good argument! Especially when you open an email expecting to read from one of your favorite writers and immediately sense the AI fingerprint.

But I have a more optimistic take: We've just tightened our filters.

Because the cost of creating (generating) things has effectively gone to zero, the supply of consumable stuff has exploded. Available human attention has not changed. So what we're all learning how to do is get better and better at filtering what deserves our limited supply of attention.

You’ll learn how to build a strong support network of peers, experts, mentors, advocates, and future collaborators so you can navigate this next uncertain phase of your work and life with confidence and get back to making things that matter

NEW VIDEO ▶️
#321: His EXACT System For Writing Scripts With AI — Former Ali Abdaal Scriptwriter, George Blackman

My guest is George Blackman, a YouTube scriptwriter who got his start writing full-time for Ali Abdaal and has since written scripts for creators from 30,000 to over 10 million subscribers.

This is George's second time on the show. Three years ago, we talked about scriptwriting fundamentals. Since then, George has started writing his own videos with AI, and he's spent most of this year building PlayWriteAI, an AI scriptwriting app with more than 700 people on the waitlist. Building it taught him something most creators haven't noticed yet: AI will tell you, very confidently, that it did ten things it never actually did.

This episode is his full process, from voice memo to a script that's ready to record.

By the end of this episode, you will have a repeatable system for writing scripts with AI, and a clearer sense of which parts of the work you should keep for yourself.
